Majorica is the only company in the world that produces artificial pearls that are organic. The core is the first step of the process, opal glass is the material of choice as it has a high density and a specific gravity comparable to that of real pearls. Then approximately 30 to 40 layers of ''hemage'' are applied, which is an oil that is mixed with crushed fish scales and/or other particles of marine animals to give the desired iridescent effect like natural pearls. After each layer, the pearls are dried and polished. This helps to remove any imperfections. The pearls are then exposed to ultraviolet radiation, gases and other solutions that ensure that the pearls remain beautiful and have a long lifespan.
