In order to hone our gold and silversmithing skills, and in order to stay relevant in what we do,  we think it is important to keep challenging ourselves. These days we are no longer "limited" to the traditional techniques of the goldsmith and silversmith. We now have additional techniques at our disposal.  Thanks to the developments in 3D modeling and the printing of wax that can be used to make detailed moulds. And increased accessibility of laser machines for engraving or cutting precious metals.

And when a customer recently asked us, "can you make a miniature gun pendant that looks realistic?", we challenged ourselves by finding out how far we could take that.... I believe we took it a little further than we thout we were going to... Since we went beyond "looking detailed" and examined if we could make parts move in a convincing way. Upping the challenge, as working with precious metals has it's own pro's ánd cons. The result impressed even us.

The miniature rifle you see was made by combining different techniques. It consists of parts drawn on the computer and cast using the lost wax method, parts lasered from silver plate, parts drawn from wire in our workshop and everything is hand finished in our workshop. Parts are nailed, soldered, clamped, etc. Surfaces are darkened with blitz and lightly polished for the "blued" look or matted to make the surfaces appear more white.

All in all, a prestige project that required many tens of hours, both in terms of design and of production, but which also shows what is possible within our field of work.
