Product description
Exceptionally beautiful vintage pearl necklace, with beautiful Biwa pearls. This piece of jewelry seems, as described in children's books, to come straight from a treasure chest. The necklace is approx. 53 cm long and can also be worn with the clasp to the front, as shown in the pictures.
Biwa pearls are freshwater pearls known for their unique shape and luster. Biwa pearls are so called because they were originally grown in Lake Biwa, the largest freshwater lake in Japan. Today, Biwa pearls are also grown in other parts of the world, such as China and the United States. They are grown in freshwater mussels, known as Unionidae, and are a sustainable alternative to saltwater pearls.
The maintenance of Biwa pearls is quite simple. They should be protected from rough handling and direct contact with chemicals, perfume and hairspray. It is advisable to put pearls on last when dressing and to wipe them with a soft cloth after wearing them to remove any residue. Pearls keep their shine best by wearing them regularly, the fat of the skin ensures that the pearls do not dry out.
