Necklace resizing
In our workshop in Eindhoven, our master goldsmiths can also shorten or lengthen gold necklaces or silver necklaces. Because the variety of necklaces in existence is virtually endless, there is no single solution for resizing every necklace.
Shortening necklaces?
Yes, in our workshop in Eindhoven we can shorten many different types of bracelets.
For reference: we usually charge €10,- for shortening a small, solid silver chain necklace and for shortening a small 14k gold chain necklace usually between €15,- and €25,- . If links are bigger or hollow, and/or if there are other complications, the price will increase.
Since prices can vary, we always make a quotation in advance!
Increasing necklace length?
Making a necklace longer is usually a little harder than shortening it. For example; if a chain necklace needs extra length, more links must be added. But since there are countless variations in links, there is only a very small chance that exactly the same links are in stock, or can even be ordered. Therefore we often look for solutions such as adding an extra round link near the closure or changing to a different type of lock to gain some length. In general, therefore, shortening a necklace is easier than lengthening a necklace.
Obviously, there are several possible complications when resizing necklaces. Including but not limited to; presence of precious stones that are sensitive to temperature or tention changes, hollow links that make soldering more difficult, the presence of a rhodium or gold coating, tin solder on the necklace, etc.
In some cases, like with torc necklaces or necklaces with a continuous specific pattern resizing is either not possible or not advisable.
